An EAGLE view of the missing baryons

چکیده

Context. A significant fraction of the predicted baryons remains undetected in local universe. We adopted common assumption that a large missing corresponds to hot (log T(K) = 5.5-7) phase Warm Hot Intergalactic Medium (WHIM). base our search on scenario whereby WHIM has been heated up via accretion shocks and galactic outflows, is concentrated towards filaments Cosmic Web. Aims. Our aim improve observational poorly detected WHIM. Methods. detect filamentary structure within EAGLE simulation by applying Bisous formalism galaxy distribution. In addition, we use MMF/NEXUS+ classification scale environment dark matter component EAGLE. then study spatio-thermal distribution extracted filaments. Results. While occupy only 5% full volume, diffuse intergalactic medium amounts 23% $-$ 25% total baryon budget, or 79% 87% all The most optimal filament sample, with mass 82%, obtained selecting high luminosity density. For these derived analytic formulae for radial gas density temperature profiles, consistent recent Planck SZ CMB lensing observations central $r$~ 1 Mpc. Conclusions. Results from suggest are strongly axes. Since finding methods used here applicable surveys, can be localised focusing efforts Mpc regions Moreover, will optimise signal.

Missing baryons in shells around galaxy clusters

Aims. The cluster baryon fraction is estimated from the CMB-scattering leptonic component of the intracluster medium (ICM); however, the observed cluster baryon fraction is less than the cosmic one. Understanding the origin of this discrepancy is necessary for correctly describing the structure of the ICM. Methods. We estimate the baryonic mass in the outskirts of galaxy clusters which is diffi...

Are we missing baryons in Galaxy Clusters?

The recent constraints on the cosmological parameters put from the observations of the WMAP satellite limit the cosmic baryon fraction in a range that is larger than, and marginally consistent with, what is measured in galaxy clusters. This rises the question whether or not we are considering all the ingredients of cluster baryonic budget. Carefully weighing the baryons in X-ray emitting plasma...

The Search for the Missing Baryons at Low Redshift

The baryon content of the universe is known from Big Bang nucleosynthesis and cosmic microwave background considerations, yet at low redshift, only about one-tenth of these baryons lie in galaxies or the hot gas seen in galaxy clusters and groups. Models posit that these “missing baryons” are in gaseous form in overdense filaments that connect the much denser virialized groups and clusters. Abo...

The eagle is landing: Eagle syndrome--an important differential diagnosis.

British Journal of General Practice, September 2012 501 CASE REPORT A 35-year-old woman presented in the accident and emergency department with a 2-day history of right-sided Horner’s syndrome. She had been seeing her GP over the last few months with right-sided neck pain, often brought on by chewing, and occasional tinnitus and dizziness, for which no cause had been found. Physical examination...
